How do reseal a section of plaster board wall (30cm x 30cm approx) that was cut out earlier?
I want to reinfoce a plaster board wall by cutting out a square section with a plaster wall saw, apply a piece of plywood in the cavity between the plaster and the proper wall (about 2 inches of empty space).
I then want to put the plaster wall section back on and reseal it as if nothing was done.
How do I re-apply the section and what materials and tools do I need for a pro finish?
FYI – I’m doing this so I can hang my LCD tv. There is one stud (metal) going down the centre of where I want to mount the TV, but is obviously too week to take the load.
You can carefully cut the plasterboard out with a utility knife and a saw – try not to damage the skim coat – and put aside. Fit the plywood – I would use two inch blocks where the brackets are going, but whatever. Then refit plasterboard with adhesive over the blocks, if you cant reinforce the joint with wooden strips behind so much the better. Infill cut lines with cellulose filler and finish smooth. I have done this several times (mainly for running in additional cabling) and if careful you can’t see the join.
